Quinquireme

A Decadent Period warship, propelled by three banks of oars, with two rowers on each oar in the upper two banks, for a total of two hundred and ninety rowers. Although quinquiremes are equipped with rams, their main armament consists of ballistas and catapults. Like biremes, quinquiremes ship a dismountable mast and a [[lateen sail]]. Unlike biremes, quinquiremes are generally completely decked over, so that the rowers labour in stuffy darkness. Quinquiremes are faster and more stable than triremes, and so afford better artillery platforms. They can also carry more marines.
