A military officer, roughly equivalent to a lieutenant, assisting a lokhagos in the command of a lokhos, commanding when his superior is off duty, and succeeding to the command when his superior is incapacitated. A lokhagos ought to be an experienced soldier, but his appointment is at the discretion of his immediate superior, and is often made out of considerations of patronage. The pay of a company lieutenant is three obols per day, plus possible pay for panoply.
