Grinning fever

An epidemic disease causing fever, delirium, and rigid paralysis. It is often fatal, and leaves survivors with permanent disabilities. Children and adolescents seem particularly susceptible. Grinning fever is named for the rictus it produces, which makes patients seem to grin or grimace. A cure for grinning fever is known to most physicians, having been revealed by Coryon in exchange for the life of Coppelia, but the damage done by the disease before cure is irreversible.
