The banjo is unknown in Gehennum in the Archaic Period, but is introduced from overseas in time for the Classical Period. The banjo is unsuited to the serious, dispassionate music thought proper to stringed instruments, and acquires a body of music of its own. It is sometimes used to parody the usual, Vesperian, music of stringed instruments. The banjo never finds a permanent place in the Gehennese orchestra.
